生物科学和生物医药
生物科学学院是少数专门致力于研究所有生物科学的大学之一，所提供的专业反映了该领域的广度和深度。所有学院的专业都为数学，化学，物理和一般生物学提供了坚实的基础，以及更先进的生物化学，遗传学和生态学课程。
工程学
作为明大的王牌专业之一，明大化工系在全美享有盛誉。事实上，明大是真正意义上的现代化学工业的发源地。1950年代后，明大化工系Neal Amundson教授首次将数学方法引入到化工上来，从而开辟了作为一个独立学科而存在的化工的新纪元，同时也奠定了明大在化工领域中的地位。他建立的许多著名理论和模型已成为全世界任何一本化工传质或反应工程教材的经典章节。在他担任化工系系长的任内，聘用了许多后来的大牛，如Rutherford Aris, Lanny Schimdt, Edward Cussler, Kenneth Keller, Chris Macosko等等。在这些前辈们的合力下，明大化工系在上世纪60-80年代成为当之无愧的全美第一，而Amundson也因为他卓越的贡献被后人称为"现代化工之父"。
社会科学
双城的Humphrey School of Public Affair 是全美排名前十的公共政策学院。此专业没有设置本科项目，但是又6个硕士项目和一个博士项目，硕士项目方向包括人权、公共事务、科学技术和环境政策、城市和区域规划等。本科生可以选择在此学院修读双学位。
