在人工智能和机器人技术飞速进步的同时,我们似乎有了很多“超能力”。麻省理工学院启动的 “智能探索”计划(“MIT Intelligence Quest”),旨在推进智能科学与工程的发展,致力于研究使用人工智能技术的伦理问题以及社会影响。
在远程技术的辅助下,学生们可以与远在千里之外的导师开会,医生们也能远程治疗异地的患者。我们开始使用机器人处理车间的包装工作,使用网络传感器监控设施,利用3D打印定制商品。科技发展日新月异,我们所处的世界充满着可能性。我们还可以做什么?我们还应该做些什么?

Prof. W. Eric L. Grimson
麻省理工学院学术发展名誉校长
W. Eric L. Grimson教授是美国人工智能协会(AAAI)、国际计算机学会(ACM)电气和电子工程师协会(IEEE)等学会的会士。Grimson教授于加拿大里贾纳大学获得数学和物理学士学位,并于麻省理工学院获得数学博士学位。此外,他还获得了达尔豪斯大学的荣誉文学博士学位以及萨斯喀彻温大学的荣誉理学博士学位。他曾担任麻省理工学院名誉校长以及电气工程和计算机科学系主任,现为麻省理工学院学术发展名誉校长、计算机科学教授以及医学工程Bernard M. Gordon教授。
Grimson教授的研究领域包括计算机视觉与医学图像分析。他教授计算机编程入门课程,包括MITx系列的网络课程。Grimson教授在麻省理工学院培养了约15,000名本科生及50名博士生。
Prof. W. Eric L. Grimson is a Fellow of AAAI, ACM, and IEEE. He is Chancellor for Academic Advancement at MIT, Professor of Computer Science and the Bernard M. Gordon Professor of Medical Engineering. He previously served as Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and as Chancellor for MIT. He earned a BSc in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada and a PhD in mathematics from MIT and holds a Doctor of Letters (honoris causa) from Dalhousie University and a Doctor of Science (honoris causa) from University of Saskatchewan.
In addition to research in computer vision and medical image analysis, Prof. Grimson teaches introductory computer programming courses, including an online MITx course. In all, he has taught some 15,000 MIT undergraduates and served as the thesis supervisor to almost 50 MIT PhDs.

Daniela Rus教授是康奈尔大学计算机科学博士,现为麻省理工学院电气工程与计算机科学Andrew(1956)and Erna Viterbi教授以及麻省理工学院计算机科学与人工智能实验室(CSAIL)的主任。 她是丰田-CSAIL联合研究中心的负责人,也是丰田研究所科学顾问委员会的成员。其研究领域包括人工智能、机器人和移动计算。

Professor Daniela Rus is the Andrew (1956) and Erna Viterbi Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Director of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) at MIT. She serves as the Director of the Toyota-CSAIL Joint Research Center and is a member of the science advisory board of the Toyota Research Institute. The research interests of Professor Rus are AI, robotics and mobile computing. She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cornell University.
Rus is a Class of 2002 MacArthur Fellow, a fellow of ACM, AAAI and IEEE, and a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is the recipient of the 2017 Engelberger Robotics Award from the Robotics Industries Association.

讲者将重点介绍该“智能探索”计划的目标,并将精选智能科学研究实例,阐述如何将智能新方法应用于解决材料设计、药物设计、医疗保健和机器人技术等领域中的问题。
The MIT Quest of Intelligence – an MIT-wide initiative focused on advancing the science and engineering of intelligence, as well as examining ethical issues of using artificial intelligence tools and the societal impact of such tools. The initiative couples research in neuroscience and cognitive science with advances in computer science both to advance our understanding of human intelligence and to create and deploy intelligent systems in every area of science, engineering, design, finance, health and social sciences.
In this talk, we will highlight the goals of the initiative, and provide selected examples of research in the science of intelligence and examples of applications of these new methods to problems in material design, drug design, health care, robotics and other areas.

科技发展日新月异。如今,在远程技术的辅助下,学生们可以与远在千里之外的导师开会,医生们也能远程治疗异地的患者。我们开始使用机器人处理车间的包装工作,使用网络传感器监控设施,利用3D打印定制商品。我们所处的世界充满着可能性。只有当我们开始想象能运用人工智能和机器人技术做什么,可能性才会无限扩大。小到解决便捷平安的通勤等地方挑战,大到全球事宜,科技进步总有其用武之地。协同人工智能系统,人类将大大优化和增强工作与生活的方方面面。
在本次讲座中,Rus教授将讨论人工智能和机器人技术的最新趋势,以及如何普及机器对人类进行认知和物理任务的辅助。
Our world has been changing rapidly. Today, telepresence enables students to meet with tutors and teachers, and doctors to treat patients thousands of miles away. Robots help with packing on factory floors. Networked sensors enable monitoring of facilities, and 3D printing creates customized goods. We are surrounded by a world of possibilities. These possibilities will only get larger as we start to imagine what we can do with advances in artificial intelligence and robotics.
Technology has the potential to support us from local challenges like making riding to work easy and safe to global issues. Working together with AI systems, humans can augment and amplify many aspects of work and life. In this talk, the speaker will discuss the recent trends in AI and Robotics and new advances that aim to enable the pervasive use of machines to assist humans with cognitive and physical tasks.
