Job description

Immediate opportunities exist for postdoctoral fellows to study microbial modulation of cognitive function and pelvic pain in clinically relevant models at Northwestern University.  Join our well-funded, interdisciplinary team to characterize the impact of the microbiome in novel mouse models where we study symptom mechanisms at the genetic, microbiologic, physiologic, and behavioral levels.  We have reported differences in the GI microbiota of pelvic pain patients and developed novel murine models as platforms to dissect the mechanisms by which microbiota modulate pain and depression.  We now seek fellows interested in identifying mechanisms of mood and pain modulation by bacteria and exploiting this knowledge to develop novel therapies.  Successful candidates will have strong communications skills and a PhD and/or MD in a suitable discipline of biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, physiology, or neuroscience.
