David Wenzhong Gao is a tenured professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Director of Renewable Energy and Power Electronics Laboratory at the University of Denver. He is an Adjunct Professor at Beijing Jiaotong University. He received the Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2002.His current research interests include renewable energies, microgrid, distributed generation, smart grid, and power electronics application. He has published two books and more than two hundred technical papers in international journals and conferences. Dr. Gao currently serves as an Editor for the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON SUSTAINABLE ENERGY. He is the General Chair for North American Power Symposium (NAPS 2016).

报告内容简介:An ALQR (Adaptive Linear Quadratic Regulation) control method for variable speed wind turbines system is proposed. The design of the controller considers the operation of wind turbine in low wind speed (Region 2), the pitch of the blades are fixed at the optimal angle. Since the wind turbine is a nonlinear system, the Kalman filter and adaptive method are implemented in the controller to make the LQR compatible with the nonlinear system. The proposed control system is compared with several commonly used control method,i.e. look-up table, PID control and gain-scheduling method, for wind turbine in the simulation. The step changed wind speed profile and the turbulent wind speed profile are adopted for the tests. The results of the simulations show that the proposed ALQR method is much better than the other methods.
