Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

The Department seeks an individual who will: a) Develop an outstandingextension education program covering disease management strategies for rowcrops. The extension education program should be supportive of county agentsand address needs of growers, agricultural professionals, agribusiness, tradeassociations, and the various commodity groups associated with cropresponsibilities; b) Develop an applied research program that is innovative andrelevant to stakeholder needs and extension responsibilities; and c) Participatein the state Integrated Pest Management program.

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Philosophydegree in Plant Pathology or closely related field.

• A record of peerreviewed publications.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, planting, andexecuting field research trials in all field crops grown in northeastLouisiana. Responsibilities will include pesticide applications in test plots,maintenance of field plots, equipment calibration, data collection, andmanagement of transient workers. Operation and maintenance of many differenttypes of farm machinery specialized for planting, maintaining, and harvestingsmall plot research trials is required of the candidate. Additionalresponsibilities include data entry, analysis, interpretation, andpresentation. The candidate also will be expected to maintain greenhousefacilities while executing greenhouse experiments. Laboratory responsibilitiesmay include: storage and maintenance of bacterial and fungal cultures,conducting laboratory experiments involving microorganisms, equipment operationand maintenance. Extensive soil sampling may be required in some field trials.The candidate will also be responsible for helping maintain research plotrecords and the pesticide inventory.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The position requires a B.S. in plantpathology or phytonematology (preferred), agronomy, weed science, entomology,biological sciences, or a closely related field. Knowledge and skills inoperating farm equipment, handling pesticides, using word-processing and database management software is essential. Farming and/or field crop researchexperience in pathology and/or phytonematology is very desirable. Experiencegrowing crop plants in a greenhouse setting is desirable. Experience withculturing microorganisms and basic laboratory procedures also is desirable. Thesuccessful candidate must have acceptable written and oral communicationskills.

SALARY AND BENEFITS：Salary will be commensurate with qualifications andexperience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a widevariety of benefit options.
