Goizueta’s Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) is designed to develop Business Data Scientists. The program brings together knowledge from three distinct fields of management, information systems/computer sciences and applied statistics to solve business problems. Classes begin each August and cover a wide range of current topics and provide rigorous training in the areas of data mining, machine learning, econometrics, relational and noSQL databases, text mining, data visualization, design of experiments, optimization, simulation, decision theory, consumer and human behavior.

This is a 10 month program. No work experience is required. Graduates of this program will occupy that unique position in an organization that is at the cusp of business, technology and data.

The MSBA’s Preparatory Month immerses students in technology and business fundamentals needed to succeed in the program. In the fall semester, students will undergo rigorous training through core classes designed to develop strong competency in statistics based methods and computer science techniques. At the same time, care is also taken to ensure that class projects in each of these technical and quantitative courses are based on real world problems. This will require students to abstract business problems into quantitative formulations and present solutions as a business case.

In the second semester, students will continue their core education with two advanced courses on machine learning and social network analytics. At this time, students will also have the opportunity to select electives where they can apply their knowledge to specific veriticals or selected functional areas e.g., sports, marketing, human resources. It is expected that additional business analytics courses will be offered throughout the university including in policy analytics and healthcare informatics.

For international students, Goizueta’s designation as a STEM-based degree provides additional benefits for career achievement. In addition to the normal Optional Practical Training (OPT) period of 12 months, a STEM degree allows for a 24-month extension of post-completion OPT, offering a total eligibility of up to 36 months.
