华盛顿圣路易斯大学的艺术设计之旅

2017年的夏天，我申请了华盛顿圣路易斯大学Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Art学院的夏校，从前期的申请准备到最终portfolio plus项目完成后的收获良多的过程无疑是遇到过困难的但也是值得的。

In the summer of 2017, I applied for the summer school in Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts in Washington University in Saint Louis. From the preparation of applying at first to the harvest after the completion of the portfolio plus project, I had a lot of troubles but I think I also received a lots.  

最初是在圣路易斯大学的官网上看到的夏校的消息，我从2-3月份就开始写申请书，填申请表，上传作品，签各种字，办理许多复杂不同的手续。因为我这次参加的夏校是学分制的，如果之后你想申请这所大学的话会相对于其他人有利很多，学分也能用在之后的大学课程上，因此申请的手续和要求会相对麻烦，相对高。在写申请书的时候，技巧就是一定要展现给这个大学你对这个项目浓厚的兴趣和热爱，对这所学校的了解和自身的经历和个性。一篇这样的申请书大概在400-500字左右，除此之外，还要上传自己的在校成绩单和作品集。但是，如果单单作品集好，在校成绩比较糟糕的话，它也不会录取的哦。所以，好好读书，好好学习！！

Initially, I saw the information of this summer school on the official website of WUSTL, I started writing the application form from January to February and filling in the application blank. As this summer school I attended was using the form of credits, so if you would like to apply for this school in the future, you will have more advantages and more predominant than other students. These credits which you got can also be used in the formal courses in the university, but at the same time, the criterion of applying will be higher than other summer schools. When you are writing the application form, you should show the counselor in the university your interests to this school and everything you know about it and your experience and your characters. This kind of application form is about 400 to 500 words. Except that, I need to upload my artworks and transcripts. But if you have perfect artworks but terrible scores of other subjects, your application will not be passed. So, you should study hard and study hard!!!

Tips: 

第一，在申请夏校这一方面，我的建议是尽量提早开始准备，不然之后匆匆忙忙的会遗漏许多的东西，为了保证能够申请上、不浪费申请费用，最好还是早作打算～

第二就是，申请书好好写，这是通过标准的一个很重要的因素！通过之后，学校会发邮件告诉你要填表格，并完成第一幅作品，算是参加夏校的预热。

2.Write application form carefully! After you receive the message from the school which told you that the application is approved, you need to complete the first artwork which is a preparation and an adaption for the summer school.

7月9号，我正式开始了我的夏校项目，虽然只有三周时间，但是比大学的课程还要紧张。每天都为了完成作品而忙到凌晨，不怎么睡觉也是这三周的常态，但是高压的训练也会让自己收获许多并提升很多，无疑是对于申请大学有着很大的好处的。每天的早上是例行的绘画课程，三周的时间从最开始对于线条的各种训练到中间写生裸体模特再到最后完成一张自己的自画像，这一过程中，是对自己一点一点的挑战，也是对自己的历练，每天从早画到晚的生活让我们这样的艺术生在绘画速度和技巧上有了巨大的提升。下午有三个项目可供我们选择，服装设计，平面设计和工作室艺术。我最后选择了服装设计，很大程度上，这对于我未来选服装设计这个专业提供了很大的帮助，让我系统化地体验到一件衣服是怎么从灵感的塑造到布料的裁剪到成衣的产生。本来，我以为做一件衣服是件很简单的事情，但是的确现在才知道将一件衣服做到精致完美是有多么不易。我们在这样的课程中观看了很多关于服装设计的纪录片，观看时教授的专业点评更让我们对此加深印象；也翻看了许多时尚杂志；更从什么是时尚这个问题起步去制作灵感板，自己去大型布料店挑选布料进行裁剪。

On July 9th, I officially started my summer school project. Although there is only 3 weeks, it is more intense than courses in the college. I worked for my artworks from morning to wee hours everyday and sleeping less is the normal condition in the three weeks. However, high-pressured training will also let myself improve a lots and learn a lots, so it is good for applying for the university. We had routine drawing studios every morning, we learned from drawing lines to completing drawing of my selfie, during this process, I continually challenged myself and exercised myself. Drawing from morning to night enabled me to accelerate the speed of drawing and improve my drawing skills. In the afternoon, we could randomly choose our courses, the school provided us with fashion design and graphic design and studio art. I finally chose fashion design, to some degree, it helped me a lots for my major in the future and it enabled me to experience how to change the inspiration into a complete clothes systematically. Originally, I thought making one clothes was easy, but now I am sure that it is too difficult to make a extremely exquisite clothes. We watched a lot of documentaries about fashion design during the three weeks, and the professor’s comments helped us learn; we also read a lot of magazines; we started from the question of ‘What is fashion’ to make our mood board and went to the fabric store to choose fabrics for sewing.  

三周之间，虽有让自己一次又一次痛苦的训练，但是也留下了许多美好的记忆和时光。我们一起去圣路易斯等博物馆参观，一起去游乐场放肆嗨，一起去打保龄球，一起……三周时间，不长不短，但是很高兴能够认识一群好友，虽然不是来自同一个国家，却也建立了深厚的友谊。

During the three weeks, although we experienced a lot of painful trainings, we still get much memories. We visited various museums in Saint Louis and went to the amusement park and went to play bowling together and…… Three weeks are not too long but not too short, but I felt so happy that I could meet so many friends. Although we didn’t come from the same countries, but we still built deep friendship.

最终，每个人都
有自己的作品成果，更是拿到了自己的学分和证书。参加这样一个夏校虽然可能会很累，但是只要过来了也就能得到很多，不仅仅是艺术技巧更是沟通技巧更是来自不同地方的挚友。总而言之，夏校是一次很棒的经历，除了对于申请学校有很大的帮助之外，也是一次融入其他国家其他地方的机会。

Ultimately, each person all got our own final artworks and we received our credits and certificates.To participate in such a summer school may be very tired, but as long as you can get a lot, not just art skills is more communication skills and friends from different places. All in all, the summer school is a great experience, except to help us on applying for schools, but it is also an opportunity to integrate into other parts of other countries.
